When you know your rights, you will know how to fight for them.
These were the words that run through the mind of an OFW who was terminated from work because she tried to take a video of her ward trying to prick her eyes.
Last June 27, the employer personally went to the Mission for Migrant Workers to have a talk with the OFW and settle the issue.
The OFW, identified only as May E asked for compensation amounting to $19,837.90 or approximately (P141,351.53).
Esther Bangcawayan, the person who handles the case of May convinced her to settle with compensation knowing that the OFW worked for 4 years on her previous employer.
Currently, May was thankful when she was able to find another employer and her visa is in process. She was asked for a salary of $5,500 or (P39,187).
“Sa lahat ng mga ganitong pagkakataon, hindi ako naprotektahan ng amo kong babae sa pananakit ng anak niya,” sabi pa ni May sa sulat. Hindi daw nagtatrabaho ang nanay nung bata kaya nakikita lagi ang pananakit ng anak niya pero hindi niya ito inaawat,” says May as she recalled her life when she was still employed with her previous employer.
May also confessed that when she had bruises and wounds because of the employer’s child, they would refuse to send her to the hospital for treatment.
Aside from the physical abuse perpetrated by the employer’s child, May also suffered from a lack of rest and food.
