The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is finding ways to speed up the process of acquiring Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) for Filipinos working abroad, says the Overseas Workers Welfare Administrator (OWWA).
In an interview conducted to OWWA Administrator Arnell Ignacio, he was questioned regarding the appeal of OFWs to speed up the process of acquiring OECs, a document required to travel abroad.
“I am very sure they are talking about the OEC,” says Ignacio. “Bago tayo nagkaroon ng DMW, POEA (Philippine Overseas Employment Administration) ang gumagawa niyan,” says Ignacio, clarifying that OWWA isn’t responsible in releasing OECs.
“Pero ngayon na DMW is here, ‘yan ay inaaral mabuti para mas maging convenient para sa OFWs ang mabigyan ng OECs nila.”
Furthermore, Ignacio mentioned that this document gives added protection to OFWs.
It can be recalled that President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said in his first State of the Nation Address, that the DMW and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) should prioritize the automation of contracts of OFWs.
President Marcos also said that he wants these agencies to find ways to have the issuance of OECs to be done through mobile phones.
