Beaten badly and breaking the ribs – this is how this Al Ain employer treated her poor domestic worker.
However, the employer had to pay a huge price for the injuries inflicted on the worker. The employer was asked by the Al Ain Court to pay Dh70,000 as compensation to the injured worker who got broken ribs and damage to her backbone.
According to the official court documents, the household worker filed a lawsuit against her female employer and demanded a DH100,000 payment as compensation for the moral and physical damages she acquired from her employer.
The maid claimed that she was merely doing some household chores when the female employer assaulted her. The woman was hit in the stomach, ribs, chest, and some parts of her body. The employer also hit her in the face and eyes.
To support her claims, the maid presented medical reports to the court. Meanwhile, a forensic report was done by a doctor from the first Instance court confirmed that the injuries – fractures to the ribs and vertebrae column – were the result of the employer’s beatings.
The housemaid now suffers permanent disability at 20 percent, as confirmed by the doctor. She is also suffering from pain when moving and bending as her lower back was injured. There were no brain injuries or damages to the skull of the worker, the report claims.
The employer may be paying the compensation but the physical damage caused by the abuse is irreversible.
