The Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who was allegedly maltreated by her employer was finally able to see her family in the Philippines.
Joana Beth Ordonia went Kuwait to work as a domestic helper. In an interview with GMA News, the Filipina shared the nightmare she experienced while working with her employers.
According to Ordonia, her employer were not paying her salary. They don’t even give her enough food.
“One week lang siya naging mabait sa akin… lagi niya akong sinisigawan, sinasabihan niya ako ng walang utak, minumura niya ako,” says Ordonia.
Fearing that her family might worry, she kept to herself the bad experiences that she had.
Fortunately, when Ordonia decided to return to the Philippines, her agency immediately helped her in processing her repatriation when she decided to tell them about her situation.
“20k lang ang sahod mo tapos nabili na niya buong pagkatao mo. Dito na lang ako magtatrabaho. Hindi na ako lalayo,” says Ordonia.
Although she was not lucky with her employers abroad, Ordonia was happy to finally see her family in Dagupan City, Pangasinan.
Meanwhile, OWWA ensured that returning OFWs will be offered with programs that will help them financially.
“On the side of OWWA is ginagawa natin kung ano ang dapat gawin. Eventually, we will do or we will extend whatever program and services OWWA could still or possibly extend pa doon sa OFW and her family,” says OWWA Labor Officer Christian Maglaya.
