The Filipino American victim of a hate crime in New York couldn’t help but feel as though the cases filed against their perpetration isn’t enough.
Assault and aggravated harassment were the cases filed against the arrested suspects identified as Natalie Plaza, 18 years old, and Elijah Fernandez, 21 years old. The police are still looking for another suspect.
According to reports, the three were accused of attacking Cecille Lai and her child the previous week. Aside from the victims, another man went to the New York Police District to report a similar incident involving the same suspect.
Knowing the cases which were filed by the Queens District Attorney’s Office, the victim tried to consult another attorney. According to them, the three suspects tried to run over them when they tried to escape from the harassment.
The two suspects were temporarily freed by Judge Jessica Earle-Gragan but they are set to have an appearance at the court soon.
“In the most diverse county in the country, perhaps the most diverse place in the world, there is zero tolerance for hate. We will not allow our values to be threatened with violence,” says Katz.
A rally will be held to condemn the hate crime towards Asians.
